Belmont Secondary School

Victoria, BC

This three-storey, 31-classroom, 13,535 m2 in size, secondary school is constructed of cast in place concrete, structural steel, and glulam beams and columns. It also uses NLT roof panels. This project is LEED Gold Certified. The project features extensive use of wood ceilings and interior wood wall paneling as well as aboriginal art. The exterior has exposed concrete on the lower level for durability, profiled metal cladding, and Hardie panel siding on the upper levels. Students, staff and visitors are greeted by the wood entrance canopy.

The library/media tech center is prominently visible from the main entrance and showcases the timber and wood ceiling.

This school features a large three-court gymnasium, a 300-seat theatre, high glazed atrium, and glazed overhead doors adjacent to the student multi-purpose area. 17 music, drama, food, specialty rooms were included, as well as an aboriginal room. This opens to an exterior courtyard allowing student access to the exterior playfield and basketball courts.
